Annual Report

In Memory of
In Fond Memory of Elaine (Lainey) Garvin
1945-2004
Elaine (Lainey) Garvin was the illustrator of more than 30 books for young readers, among them: "Babe Ruth and the Ice Cream Mess," "The Little Elephant With the Big Earache," "The Story of The Lord's Prayer," a Little Bear series and a series of craft books for children. Her two grandaughters were inspiration for many of her characters.

Her latest book, "Jackie Robinson and the Big Game," was released by Aladdin Books in January 2006. She is the creator of Gooseberry Hollow, a wooded place with scurrying woodland critters. She also created whimsical illustrations for greeting cards, paper party goods, paper crafts, giftwrap and decorative housewares. Much of her work was done in gouache.

Lainey attended the College of Visual & Performing Arts at Syracuse University. She was a long-time member of PBAA. She also moderated a listserv for artists, took many under her wing and was generous in giving her time to help others. Many of her close friends called her "Sunshine" because she was such a ray of light.
