Our membership requirements were updatedin March 2007

New applicants will be admitted at the discretion of the PBAA Membership Committee based on the professional quality of their work, picture book experience, and demonstrated career focus.

New members must:
• Be dedicated to children's illustration for publishing.

• Have illustrated at least 3 published picture books, each at least 16 pages long.  One must be a trade book, meaning available on sites like Books-A-Million.com, Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com. You must be the sole illustrator of these books.  No anthologies or textbooks with multiple illustrators. The Membership Committee may consider foregoing this requirement if you have a 32-page book that has won a national award or appeared in a recognized Top 10 Bestseller list or if you have other extraordinary circumstances or outstanding achievements.

• Participate in the listserv and agree to follow the rules for posting. See rules. Expect to receive about 25 emails a day from the listserv, sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on what's being discussed.

• Have English-language skills that will allow full participation in the listserv

• Pay dues. See dues for details on dues for the listserv and site, plus instructions for submitting art.

If you'd like to join the PicBookArts listserv, email the following to membership@picturebookartists.org:

• a brief description of why you'd like to join and your professional involvement in children's publishing

• the titles, publishers' names and website addresses for your published books, as specified in the second requirement above.

• a web site address where your illustrations can be viewed.

As the Membership Committee consists of working illustrators, please allow up to a month for us to consider your application and notify you.

PBAA is a volunteer organization, and we depend upon the contributions of all of our members to make it succeed. Each member is encouraged to volunteer their time and talent. Volunteer committees handle new member applications, site promotions, the listserv and more. If you are willing to serve, please send an email to board@picturebookartists.org.
