What some of our members have to say:
Though I had many years of illustrating experience behind me when I joined the PicBookArts listserv, it was only my second year of illustrating for children. The messages from experienced and generous professional children's book illustrators have covered a range of topics from paint colours, to paper, to computer software, operating systems and web-sites. The discussions have ranged from personal and passionate to light and humorous and the goodwill has been immeasurable. I sampled many listservs on my way and now I belong to only this one. It serves all my needs; a good laugh over my morning coffee, a chat by the water cooler and an on-going workshop in all aspects of children's illustrating. This is more than an email list, it is a community.

I get so much from others on this list who write about supplies they like, maybe a new watercolor paper that has just come out or great brushes they have used. Even the computer talk is good for me as I am willing to try some things I wouldn't otherwise. But most of all I enjoy people's comments - it's a large friendly group of illustrator neighbors who come into my studio every day.

I want to thank all of you for your very kind and supportive comments. After a difficult day, I came home to read all your wonderful words and I feel like I am part of a very caring community. Thank you all so much!

I joined SCBWI and GAG when I became an illustrator. Both are great professional organizations but, they still didn't cover all of my needs. PicBookArts has become my 24 hour help line to the industry. No matter what I need advice on, somebody out there has already dealt with it and is happy to help me out. It's such a friendly and sharing group that I volunteered to be a moderator!

I am so thankful that I heard about PicBookArts and was invited into it 3 years ago. It continues to surprise, and also to provide a much-needed feeling of connectedness!

While I love my time with my family and my time alone, this listserv is my lifeline -- filled with funny, talented, caring people who UNDERSTAND! Though I've only met a few of you in "real" life, I consider you my good friends who are always ready to lend a ready shoulder to cry on, a pat on the back for a job well done, and a nudge in the right direction when needed. Where else can I go for advice on paints, brushes, software, hardware, composition, light and shade, home remodeling, raising kids, raising pets, and ignoring dust bunnies?
